Clinical Governance

The term Clinical Governance was first introduced by the NHS (UK) in 1997, providing a strategy to modernize health system management. Its standard definition is:
A system through which organizations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services by ensuring high standards of care, creating an environment of clinical care excellence for all stakeholders.
(patients, families, doctors, employees, providers, purchasers of services, and the
community).
The major contribution of the Clinical Governance model was to incorporate clinical decision-making into the
managerial and organizational structure This management model re-examines health services from the perspective of the quality of care provided, patient safety, and waste reduction.
