Inmetro: Smart devices are a reality

Inmetro: Smart devices are a reality

Smart devices are a reality

Increasingly present in commerce and the population’s homes, these devices are intended to increasingly integrate electronic devices and allow their centralized, remote, and more practical control.

Following this trend, the offer of Smart sockets is growing in the domestic market, with three main types of this product:

– Smart fixed sockets;

– Smart mobile sockets;

– Smart plugs and sockets adapters.

What’s the difference?

Smart fixed sockets are devices consisting of a single piece, intended to be permanently fixed to the wall, controlled by an electronic circuit operated through wireless, touch, micro-switch, etc., that allow the connection of one or more plugs of electrical and electronic devices and are powered by connecting the conductors of the fixed electrical installation.

Example:

Smart mobile sockets are devices not intended to be permanently fixed, and can be used in different locations, controlled by an electronic circuit operated through wireless, touch, micro-switch, etc., that allow the connection of one or more plugs of electrical and electronic devices and are powered through a power cord with plug.

Example:

Smart plugs and sockets adapters are devices (consisting of a single piece) that allow the connection of one or more plugs of electronic devices and incorporate a plug (without a cord) for power supply.

How about the certification?

These products shall be certified according to the conformity assessment regulation for plugs and sockets for domestic and similar use of Inmetro Ordinance No. 85 of April 3, 2006.

This ordinance establishes the possibility of choosing between two different certification schemes for obtaining and maintaining the license for the use of the Certification Identification Mark:

Scheme with Evaluation of the Manufacturer’s Quality System and Tests on the Product

This scheme includes performing an audit of the manufacturer’s Quality System and conducting tests on samples collected from the manufacturer’s production line.

The products shall meet the requirements of ABNT NBR 60884-1/2010 and NBR 14136/2012 standards.

The manufacturer’s Quality System shall meet the requirements below, according to ABNT NBR ISO 9001/2015:

– Control of records;

– Production control;

– Identification and traceability of the product;

– Preservation of the product;

– Control of measuring and monitoring devices;

– Product measurement and monitoring;

– Control of nonconforming product;

 – Corrective action;

– Preventive action;

The certificate is then issued with a validity of 2 years, and every 6 months the certification is monitored through a new audit and new tests on representative production samples.

Scheme with Batch Certification

This scheme aims to validate and obtain a license to use the Certification Identification Mark on a specific batch of products.

An evaluation is then conducted regarding the size of the batch and technical specifications of the products that compose it.

Type tests are conducted with twice as many samples as necessary to conduct the tests. Batch inspection tests are also conducted on samples collected following NBR 5426:1985, with a double sampling plan regular, general inspection level I and AQL of 0.25.

The certificate is issued, with no expiration date, indicating the conformity of that specific batch with the requirements of Inmetro Ordinance No. 85 of April 3, 2006. In this scheme, certification monitoring is not conducted.
