NCC NEWS | INMETRO updates requirements for water consumption equipment – Ordinance No. 188/2026

INMETRO has published Ordinance No. 188/2026, updating the requirements established by Ordinance No. 102/2022 for water consumption equipment. The changes introduce significant impacts on certification processes, laboratory testing, and technical documentation.

Key highlights include:

  • Mandatory extractables testing for all equipment
The previous exemption for products without water quality improvement function has been removed. All equipment must now undergo extractables testing.
  • Updated electrical safety requirements
Assessments will now directly follow standards such as IEC 60335-1, IEC 60335-2-24, IEC 60335-2-15, and IEC 60335-2-75, as applicable.
The new Table 2a improves clarity in defining required tests.
  • Restructured test tables
Requirements and acceptance criteria have been reorganized, reinforcing compliance with both RTQ and applicable standards.
  • Energy efficiency classification (A to E)
A standardized classification system improves transparency for consumers through ENCE labeling.
  • Expanded labeling and documentation requirements
Additional mandatory information will impact packaging, labels, and instruction manuals.
  • Updated Conformity Certificate requirements
Certificates must now specify whether the product is intended for residential or commercial use.
  • Changes to extractables testing procedures
Detailed sampling procedures were removed, requiring direct compliance with applicable standards and RTQ criteria.

Important: These changes will require updates in certification processes and technical documentation.
