The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), through the Management Committee of Energy Efficiency Indicators and Levels (CGIEE), has published CGIEE Resolution No. 6, dated December 18, 2025, which opens a Public Consultation on a draft resolution establishing minimum energy efficiency indices for LED light sources.
The initiative aims to modernize Brazil’s lighting regulatory framework, raise the technological standard of the market, reduce energy consumption, and align the country with international best practices. Currently, the absence of specific minimum limits allows products with lower performance to enter the market, reducing the potential energy savings offered by LED technology.
Key Highlights of the Public Consultation
- Publication of the draft resolution defining minimum energy efficiency indices for LED products.
- Goal of ensuring higher quality and efficiency in products sold in Brazil.
- A 60‑day period is available for stakeholders to submit contributions through official government channels.
- A Public Hearing will be held on February 5, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., in virtual format.

Why This Matters for the Sector
NCC emphasizes the importance of participation from manufacturers, importers, and other industry stakeholders to ensure that the regulation:
- Is technically robust,
- Reflects market realities,
- Considers different product types and applications, and
- Avoids negative impacts on specific categories such as decorative luminaires, which may be affected by efficiency limits that do not reflect their design intent.
